All Ages. We'll have children's activities all day, including our Early Childhood/Preschool Fair from 11am - 1pm! Pick up a kids craft or STEAM kits (while supplies last); play with our Manipulative Table, color, make up a "GLAD-Lib", hunt for "Hidden Hearts" and a Scavenger Hunt, register to win free children's books, and check-out great books for all ages from our library! Our annual Early Childhood Fair features area preschools & learning centers, plus MDHHS, Eaton RESA, BEDHD, Community Mental Health info and giveaways too!

Families with Kids Under 4. Families with young children meet area agencies providing important services especially for early childhood-- plus fun for children too! Parents can talk with representatives from area Preschools and Learning Centers and find the program that best meets their needs. Have your child's hearing and vision screened-- BEDHD (Barry-Eaton District Health Department) will conduct FREE Hearing and Vision Screenings for young children during the FAIR, and offer information on their many other early childhood programs, including Baby Cafe, immunizations, and Lead Screening..Eaton RESA (Regional Education Service Agency); MDHHS (Michigan Department of Health & Human Services); CMHA-CEI (Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton and Ingham) will be on hand with information on a wealth of important early childhood services! Musician and childhood music educator Wanda Degen will provide music during the event. The Library will have books, toys and coloring sheets for kids to enjoy and there will be a fun scavenger hunt to complete and get entered into a drawing for books and other fun prizes-- and get your child their library card too!

Ages 7+. Learn the basics of Square, Contra Dance or Cued Ballroom Dance and have fun at these lively FREE monthly workshops! Come solo, bring some friends, make some friends, and learn fun dances in a friendly, relaxed, judgment-free atmosphere. Recorded music, live, in-person instruction, these fun dances are like an amusement park ride you make for yourself!  Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you can move easily in. Great fun for all ages, best for ages 7+. Square Dance: Sunday, Feb 2.  Contra Dance: Sunday, March 2.

Ages 5+. Make key chains, jewelry, or anything else you can think up with special Shrinky Dink plastic and our toaster oven. Watch as your creations shrink like magic when they heat up.

Ages 12+. Too chilly to fish? Learn to tie flies for next summer with the Red Cedar Fly Fishers! Feel free to attend one or both of these workshops. Class will go over the tools, materials, and techniques to tie 2 to 3 different fishing flies per workshop, for Trout, Bluegills, or Bass. All materials and instruction provided by members of the Red Cedar Fly Fishers. Registration required for EACH workshop. While supplies last or space is available.

Runs January 2 - February 28, adults. Are you ready for an adult winter reading challenge? Get ready to cozy up with a good book and earn prizes for each book read. Enter the challenge and read books from at least 5 of the 15 categories to get entered into a grand prize drawing. Participants will get their name on a snow flake for our window. Let’s create a blizzard of Winter Readers!

Adult. The American Red Cross needs our blood donations to continue to provide life-saving services. Please join us for a blood drive at GLADL. Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or visit RedCrossBlood.org (sponsor code GLADL) for more information or to schedule an appointment. Note: At this time, appointments are strongly recommended. Each blood drive will be evaluated in a case by case basis to see if we can accept walk in’s based on the number of appointments, equipment and staff available.

18 months & younger and their parents or caregivers. We’ll read a story, sing and rhyme together, do a fingerplay, and have fun while learning and playing. We’ll end with time for caregivers to socialize and babies to play & interact with each other.

All ages. Lincoln Brick Park. A Campfire Science and S’mores event! Join us at Lincoln Brick Park for an fascinating evening focused on owls and their remarkable adaptations that enable them to thrive and hunt during nighttime. The event will begin with a brief presentation on owl biology, followed by a guided night hike where participants will have the chance to observe these nocturnal creatures using red lights and acoustic bird calls. Stories and kids activities too.

Adult. Come enjoy coffee, conversation and audience participation for an afternoon of poetry, fun and ideas.  Six area women poets reading poems about 5 subjects in rotation, each giving their spin on the topics.  Readers include, Mary Anna Scenga Kruch, Tari Muñiz, Mary Fox, Keke Andrews and Sarah Smith-- who each approach poetry in different ways and from different backgrounds.  It is a fast-paced different kind of reading that is full of engaging and provoking poems to engage an audience of both poetry fans and those unfamiliar with its performance. Topics include: After I Found Myself, Things I Whisper, Finding my Tribe, Good Grief, The Best of Everyday Memories.

Adult. Plan ahead to get the best experience! Michigan has 104 state parks—which park is right for you? Which parks offer camping? Which have the best beaches or the fewest crowds? Join us for this fun, interactive presentation from the Michigan DNR! Shaun McKeon, the Explorer Program Coordinator will host a session providing information on where to camp, how to book sites and provide an update on park upgrades happening throughout the state. Q & A to follow. With more than 100 parks, adventure is nearby!

Ages 13 - 18. Teens, put your taste buds to the test! We’ll have a variety of different Oreos. Eat your cookies without knowing which is which and see if you can correctly guess each flavor! Also, vote on your favorite Oreo to determine the most popular flavor.

Ages 5+. Race your decorated potato vehicle against other potatoes to see which vehicle is the fastest.  Winners will be awarded in the following categories: Fastest, Most Creative, People’s Choice.  Ribbons for every participant!  Potatoes supplied by the library and available for pick up beginning Saturday Feb. 1st.  A complete list of rules will be provided at pick up.

Work It Out Wombats! is a national PBS KIDS® series that features three energetic marsupial siblings who solve problems in creative ways using computational thinking. Come learn more about CT, a creative way of thinking that helps children solve problems in more organized ways using a set of skills from computer science. Over the three week program, we’ll do fun hands-on activities, watch Wombats! videos, and listen to CT stories.  In between the sessions, families will continue the learning at home, using the Work It Out Wombats! Family App, which is designed for adults and children to use together. Each week will build on the last so please plan on attending all three weeks.

If you would like to submit a local community event to be included in our calendar, please submit your event online.  

Submissions will ONLY be approved for those local community events that will take place within the Grand Ledge Public School (GLPS) District or that are sponsored by a local business or organization that is housed with the GLPS District.
