During this event, participants will help transcribe handwritten historical documents from the Smithsonian Institution. These transcriptions create searchable data that supports research, education, and public access to America’s historical records.

 “Singers on The Grand” headed to Grand Ledge Opera House for a journey of timeless tunes
 
The perfect road trip isn’t complete without the tunes that you love, from an irresistible classic rock anthem, that nostalgic folk tune to play at sunset or the one guilty pleasure that makes you dance while stuck in traffic. “The Grand American Road Trip” rolls into Grand Ledge Opera House on April 11th and 12th for a cabaret weekend of travelin’ favorites that will transport you from coast-to-coast.
 
Singers on the Grand and the phenomenal Grand Band have crafted a celebration of beloved songs from some of America’s most iconic claims to musical fame across the decades. Jam out to “Free Ride”, “Route 66", “Pink Cadillac”, Billy’s “New York State of Mind”, Aretha’s “Chain of Fools” and plenty of others. Join the ride and enjoy a journey of iconic favorites from a variety of genres!

All tickets are $22, are general admission, and include dessert and coffee. Shows are at 6:30 p.m. on April 11th and 2:30 p.m. on April 12th. Buy tickets online at: https://www.gloperahouse.com/upcoming_events.php and if you purchase 8 tickets, you can reserve a table.
 
Director Katy Brandon McDonough explains, “Our Singers and Grand Band are in top form, showcasing the many diverse sounds of American music from across the country. This year, our show includes many beloved tunes which have stood the test of time and travel."
 
The Singers on the Grand ensemble vocalists are Joy Eisenga, Kelly Bitz, Bill DeWitt, Ellen Hoard, Charlie Martin, Katy Brandon McDonough, Rachel Paxton, Kelly Sandula-Gruner, Darryl Schmitz, and Dan Templin. Grand Band instrumentalists are Phil Barger, Deb DeWitt, Dave Douches, Dave Gruner, Ernie Toplis, Pete Murthum, Bernard Schroeter, and Tyler Smith. Administration & Technical members are Mike Cordes, Marley Bitz, Mary McDonough, Gloria Wilcox, Tim Daniel, Jim Lorenz, Bob Gerhls.

Contribute to real scientific research by playing a video game to help with Alzheimer's research. Participants will look at brain scans to determine if blood is flowing or stalled. Participation counts toward the shared goal of 2.50 million Acts of Science.

In this hands-on event, you’ll explore trail camera photos and help classify the animals you see. Your contributions support a NASA-supported research project that tracks changes in wildlife distributions and abundances over time—critical data that informs wildlife management and conservation decisions.

Learn some fun hands-on STEAM Earth Science! Kids can get "hands on" with worms-- nature's recyclers-- at the Vermicomposting display from Eaton County Resource Recovery, will learn about local wildlife and ecosystems from Eaton County Parks Director & Naturalist Ethan Jacobs, and will see how water moves through our ecosystem using the hands-on "EnviroScape" water display from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services. Fun "earth friendly" crafts too! Free seed giveaways (while supplies last) and information on other green initiatives in our community. Kids who registered for a Free Tree seedling from our partner Neighborhood Forest will be notified when the trees are ready for pickup.

Learn emergency procedures, discipline techniques, diapering, age-appropriate activities, rescue breathing, the Heimlich maneuver, and basic first aid skills needed while babysitting. Submissions will ONLY be approved for those local community events that will take place within the Grand Ledge Public School (GLPS) District or that are sponsored by a local business or organization that is housed with the GLPS District.
