This free workshop will equip you with valuable information about the rental process including costs, the application and approval process, and tenant responsibilities and rights. Participants will receive handouts to help document expenses, assess housing needs, and record important information about their rental. The Grand Ledge Opera House is excited to announce its Grand Reopening Open House on Saturday, October 4th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, held in conjunction with the GL Fall Fest. This special event invites the public to celebrate the return of a cherished historic treasure in the heart of downtown Grand Ledge.
Under new leadership, including a newly appointed Director and Assistant Director, the Opera House is entering a fresh chapter of growth, community engagement, and preservation.
Event Highlights Include:

  • Live Performances on the historic Barton Organ
Visitors can enjoy the beautifully restored venue, learn about rental opportunities, and explore how this space continues to serve as a hub for celebrations, music, and community events.
Located at 121 S. Bridge St., the Grand Ledge Opera House is a symbol of history and local pride. The Grand Reopening is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of resilience, renewal, and the shared spirit of Grand Ledge.

Come to the GLADL Digilab where you can restore faded and torn photographs, digitize slides and photo negatives to picture, preserve the content of written documents, convert your old VHS tapes, cassette tapes, and vinyl records to digital, and even record your oral history. While digitizing your past and present you will have the opportunity to donate photographs and documents of your GL memories to our community archive.

Enjoy seasonal books for all and literacy-building activities for children when you visit the library on this special day! Try a Scavenger Hunt, play in the "Haunted" Puppet Theater, find “Which Witch is Which”, make a leaf rubbing, crafts and other seasonal activities -- including our Fall Sidewalk Action Game too!

Heidi Meoak, mid-Michigan author of the cozy paranormal mystery "The Spirits at the Storyteller", which blends ghostly intrigue and heartfelt storytelling, will join us for Fall Festival! Heidi will have copies of her books on hand to sign, and looks forward to meeting those who enjoy paranormal mysteries.

Kathryn Christie, mid-Michigan author of the children's book "The Hibernating Combine", will join us for Fall Festival! Kathryn will have copies on her books on hand to sign, plus some "sensory bins" for kids to engage with.

Enemies to Their Country tells the story of the town’s struggle to achieve consensus even as the war for American independence began, complicating simplistic ideas of the American Revolution.

Join us for a neighborhood stroll right in downtown Grand Ledge to see the amazing Halloween decorations and lighted displays!  We'll meet at the Library parking lot and head out to look for spooky lights, funny or scary pumpkins, witches, ghosts and more! We’ll finish the night with cider and donuts and a Halloween story. All ages with adult supervision. While space is available. Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.

Visit your Eaton County Parks and learn about Michigan Owls in autumn with Eaton County Parks Deputy Director/Naturalist Ethan Jacobs. What changes for owls in the autumn? How do they prepare for winter? We'll do some "Owl Science", try some owl observing and finish with owl stories and yummy s'mores around the campfire!

Learn emergency procedures, discipline techniques, diapering, age-appropriate activities, rescue breathing, the Heimlich maneuver, and basic first aid skills needed while babysitting. Upon workshop completion, students receive an American Red Cross babysitting course certificate.

In this fall episode of Six Voices, Writing at the Ledges offers six of our writers--Becky Jensen, Cheryl Caesar, Alan Harris, Peter Ruark, Sandra Hudson, and Sarah Zwickle-- expressing their take on 5 different topics. Each reads a poem, short memoir, flash fiction, or other short writing on one topic.  The audience hears six views of the same topic and then moves on to another topic.  There are five topics and six readers with different ways of looking at the world.  Which ones make you think, reflect your ideas, or challenged you to rethink something in a different way?

Return to the scene of Michigan’s most notorious crimes on this adventure in dark tourism. Using archival photographs, crime scene sketches, and documents, noted author Tobin T. Buhk will guide viewers on a journey to the most infamous spots in the Great Lakes State. The itinerary includes the place of Michigan’s bloodiest school day, a serial poisoner’s killing field, the apartment where the Purple Gang imploded, the third floor of an office building that hosted one of the State’s most vexing unsolved crimes, the house where the perfect crime was committed, and much more!

The city-wide Trick or Treating event takes place on October 31 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The start and end will be signaled with sirens. Enjoy and please use extra caution when driving or walking in town tonight!

Submissions will ONLY be approved for those local community events that will take place within the Grand Ledge Public School (GLPS) District or that are sponsored by a local business or organization that is housed with the GLPS District.
