Our Summer Reading Program (SRP) combines fun activities and entertaining events to support and increase reading skills–and learning– all summer long. (Shhh–kids just think it’s fun!) . Runs June 1 - July 31, 2025.
GLADL offers traditional paper and digital options to participate in SRP, plus great resources for beginning readers to adults. We have digital collections and book recommendations for all ages. We have storytimes, themed entertainers and educators, creative crafts and games – inside and outside too. And of course, we’ll have Art themed instant prizes for each completed kids reading log!
The Colors of Magic Show is a fun program for all ages that includes astonishing magic, audience participation and Gus the Bunny - a real magic bunny who performs tricks to encourage summer reading!

Teens, color your world with paint! We'll supply the canvas and paint; you bring your creativity to paint a masterpiece of your own design.
We’ll read a story, sing and rhyme together, do a fingerplay, and have fun while learning and playing. We’ll end with time for caregivers to socialize and babies to play & interact with each other.

Join us for an afternoon of AMAZEMENT & FUN with Comedy Magician & Entertainer- Cameron Zvara! Cameron's show is filled with mind blowing magic, squeaky clean comedy, and tons of audience participation. You do not want to miss out! This project is funded in part by Michigan Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.
Dive into creativity with our Aquarium in a Jar craft! Patrons of all ages are invited to design their very own miniature aquarium in a jar using an assortment of miniature sea creatures, colorful pebbles, and aquatic themed decorations.

Use a photo frame, paint, and glue to create a faux stained glass art piece.

Learn emergency procedures, discipline techniques, diapering, age-appropriate activities, rescue breathing, the Heimlich maneuver, and basic first aid skills needed while babysitting. Upon workshop completion, students receive an American Red Cross babysitting course certificate. Class size limited. Participants bring a sack lunch, water bottle.

Experts from ReLeaf Michigan will discuss ReLeaf Michigan's Big Tree Hunt contest and join us on a guided walk to start the search! Teens, put your taste buds to the test! We’ll have a variety of chocolate from across the world. Eat your treat without knowing which is which and see if you can correctly guess where each chocolate was made! Also, vote on your favorite chocolate to determine the most popular.
