Jan. 28 - Feb. 23: The 17th Annual MSUFCU Student Art Exhibit will be open to the public for viewing from Sunday, Jan. 28 through Friday, Feb. 23 at the MSU Federal Credit Union Headquarters Building 2 in East Lansing. Young, local artists from 19 mid-Michigan high schools will showcase artwork, hoping to earn votes.

The public is invited to view students’ artwork at the Headquarters 2 Building during normal business hours or online and cast their vote between Jan. 28 - Feb. 23 at msufcuart.com or on the MSUFCU Student Art Exhibit Facebook (facebook.com/msufcuart) and Instagram (instagram.com/msufcu_student_art_exhibit/) pages. Votes help determine the People’s Choice Awards and a School Spirit Award, given to the high school that draws the most votes.

The winners of the Student Art Exhibit will be announced at a special awards ceremony at MSUFCU Headquarters 2 on Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m.

Too chilly to fish? Learn to tie flies for next summer with the Red Cedar Fly Fishers! Feel free to attend one or both of these workshops. Class will go over the tools, materials, and techniques to tie 2 to 3 different fishing flies per workshop, for Trout, Bluegills, or Bass. All materials and instruction provided by members of the Red Cedar Fly Fishers. Registration required for EACH workshop. Best for ages 12 to Adult.

Everyone has big feelings sometimes. Children who learn to manage those feelings at an early age have a big advantage in life. It’s an important skill for growing minds! Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties offers groups for children of all ages learn skills to manage life stress, improve social skills, and have fun doing it! New participants are always welcome – come join us! No registration necessary

  • Tues., 10 am: Ages 3-6 & caregivers:  Easy activities children can do to help feel better when they are facing big feelings. Learn about movement and breathing, using artwork to express feelings, and how laughter helps us feel better.

Hey Battle teams! Let’s eat a pizza dinner, talk Battle books, create your team gear and more! We’ll have food and drink, materials to make Team posters, buttons, and more! (Teams may bring their own t-shirts, etc. and we’ll provide fabric paints and markers). Prepare for battle and get a better understanding of the books with book-themed activities, plus battle tips and tricks.  Dive deeper into the themes, plots, characters and prepare for Battle by improving your knowledge of the books!

Kids enjoy time to create with clay! We’ll have several different kinds on hand – from PlayDoh to Sculpty-type clays for older kids to enjoy. Some clays can be oven baked to make jewelry or miniature creations you can keep too! Younger kids increase their hand strength and dexterity by playing with PlayDoh and clay.

The American Red Cross needs our blood donations to continue to provide life-saving services. Please join us for a blood drive at Grand Ledge Area District Library on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.  Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or visit RedCrossBlood.org (sponsor code GLADL) for more information or to schedule an appointment. Donors please note: At this time, appointments are strongly recommended. Each blood drive will be evaluated on a case by case basis to see if we can accept walk in’s based on the number of appointments, equipment and staff available. Physically prepare to donate – eat breakfast and lunch if appropriate, start drinking lots of fluids. Bring your legal ID or donor card.

“Next Step Ukulele” lessons are monthly sessions designed to teach a variety of techniques that will expand your skills and make you a better player. Attendees must know a handful of chords; including C, F, G7, and Am chords; switch smoothly between them; and keep a steady tempo. Materials will be provided and loaner instruments are available. (Each lesson is self-contained; register for one, two, or all three).

Taught by Michigan’s Ukulele Ambassador, Ben Hassenger, and sponsored by the Music is the Foundation non-profit. Registration Required, class size limited for personalized instruction. "Looking forward to playing and singing with you soon-- aloha!" Ben Hassenger.

Do you have toddler or preschool aged children? Are you looking for a great place for your child to learn and play? You won't want to miss our Preschool Fair, a unique opportunity to meet with and talk to staff from local preschools and other early learning and play opportunities. Information about the schools and their programs will be available, as will school representatives to answer questions. The whole family is welcome — we’ll have books, toys and coloring sheets for children to engage with while their grownups gather information.  Enter our prize drawing for parents and teachers, and get your child their library card too!

A fun interactive workshop for teen artists, singers, musicians, and people who love movies & music! Learn how songwriters, composers and sound designers create the sound and shape emotion for film and television with award winning composer/sound designer Brian Roth. We’ll look and listen to music excerpts from the movies and discuss the techniques that portray fear, happiness, sadness, tension, etc. We may even create some of our own sound & music together! For band, choir, theater, film students or anyone interested in making movies or music of any kind. Age 12+

Meet at Lincoln Brick Park for a wintery fun hike and some Owl Science! Learn about the winter wonder of our Michigan owls from Eaton County Parks Naturalist Jackie Blanc. How do owls hunt? How do they survive in the winter? Can you find owls in the Grand Ledge area? We’ll take a short hike to call (and listen) for owls then return to hear winter bird stories and enjoy a warm treat after our hike! Registration required, best for ages 4+.
