Cairns & Beacons is virtual lecture/discussion series being provided by a Michigan Humanities grant to examine several current event topics. The series takes no political position. Our goal is to provide information fairly, identifying differing points of view without bias. Attendees can participate at home or join the group at the Library. See GLADL’s event calendar for zoom links and each month’s discussion topic and presenters.
There will be crafters and vendors (including pottery, wood work, candles, handmade craft items, and businesses doing outreach) around three different parks along with free pumpkins for kids, a fall photo booth, pony rides, a petting zoo, food trucks, and we even have some re-enactors and demonstrators of live art.

Professional photographer Adrian Bradley will share how to take photographs of stars, planets, the Milky Way--including finding places of the best visibility, despite the light bathing our night skies. Learn how to take clear pictures using fairly standard photographic equipment--even cell phones. If you happen to have a high-powered telescope and a top-of-the-line camera, even better photographs are possible. Adrian will address capturing a solar eclipse on film as well.
Adrian participates in astronomical communities both nationally and in Michigan. He has shared his experience about astrophotography several times for the DPL/WSU Planetarium series.
