Ages 7+Learn the basics of Contra Dance and have fun at this lively FREE workshop! Come solo, bring some friends, make some friends, and learn fun dances in a friendly, relaxed, judgment-free atmosphere. Recorded music, live, in-person instruction, these fun dances are like an amusement park ride you make for yourself! Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you can move easily in.

For families with kids ages 4-6. Unit 2: Step It Out! Join us for some problem-solving fun with the Work It Out Wombats!™ and learn computational thinking (CT) skills. Work It Out Wombats! is a national PBS KIDS® series that features three energetic marsupial siblings who solve problems in creative ways using computational thinking. Come learn more about CT, a creative way of thinking that helps children solve problems in more organized ways using a set of skills from computer science. Over the three week program, we’ll do fun hands-on activities, watch Wombats! videos, and listen to CT stories. In between the sessions, families will continue the learning at home, using the Work It Out Wombats! Family App, which is designed for adults and children to use together. Each week will build on the last so please plan on attending all three weeks.3/4/2025

AdultMeet Claire Dahl, a Tribute “Rosie” reenactor and learn more about the Michigan Flight Museum & Air Adventures (formerly the Yankee Air Museum). “Rosie’s” presentation includes great pictures and fascinating information about the history of the Willow Run B-24 Bomber plant, part of the “Arsenal of Democracy” and of course, the legacy of Rosie, the Riveter. It’s great night of learning, laughing, smiling and a few tears as we remember the Greatest Generation.

For Teens 12+Learn emergency procedures, discipline techniques, diapering, age-appropriate activities, rescue breathing, the Heimlich maneuver, and basic first aid skills needed while babysitting. Upon workshop completion, students receive an American Red Cross babysitting course certificate. Registration required, class size limited. Participants bring a sack lunch, water bottle. Ages 12+“Women of the Watch, Keepers of the Light,” written and performed by Kamryn Marck and directed by D.B. Schroeder, is an uplifting 45-minutes of music, laughter, and simple honest storytelling. The performance follows Kamryn as she relives family trips to lighthouses in Michigan, which ignites a passion to share the spectacular stories of various female lighthouse keepers of the Great Lakes. She details the lives of four particular keepers by donning voice and movement. As she steps into these brave women’s shoes, she discovers the tragedy of the hardships they faced and the beauty of their spirits. The performance is followed by a Q & A.

Join us for a fun-filled day of children's activities and storytelling! Meet beloved children's book characters like Clifford the Big Red Dog, Kevin Henke's Lily, and Frog and Toad! Every child receives a free backpack filled with books, courtesy of WKAR (one per child while supplies last). Rock out with Chicago-based Parents' Choice Award-winning family musician Leonardo. Through sing-a-longs, jokes, stories, and dance moves this interactive performance will spark imagination, creativity, and a love for reading among all ages. Meet author/illustrator Lisa Wheeler!

Ages 12+Learn and Earn your Safe Boating Certification in one day! To legally operate a boat in Michigan, state law requires anyone born AFTER 7/1/1996 to have their Safe Boating Certification. The Michigan Safe Boating Course is the definitive 8-hour course for acquiring the Michigan Safe Boating Certification. The State of Michigan charges $29.50 for the online course and test. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Lansing Flotilla will teach the entire course live/in person AND administer the test on the same day. Registration required. There is no cost for the course, but a $20 dollar donation per person is recommended. Checks made payable to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Lansing Flotilla. For ages 12+, under 16 accompanied by responsible adult.
