Did you know the library has a robot kit?  We also have an electric Snap Circuit kits, magnet kit, and even ukuleles and other musical instruments.  We invite you to come explore our “Library of Things” and discover the possibilities in books, kits and activities for your family!

Everyone has big feelings sometimes. Children who learn to manage those feelings at an early age have a big advantage in life. It’s an important skill for growing minds! Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties offers groups for children of all ages learn skills to manage life stress, improve social skills, and have fun doing it! New participants are always welcome – come join us! No registration necessary

  • Tues., 10 am: Ages 3-6 & caregivers:  Easy activities children can do to help feel better when they are facing big feelings. Learn about movement and breathing, using artwork to express feelings, and how laughter helps us feel better.

Our Changing World: Cairns & Beacon Lecture Series
Thurs 9/14; 10/5; 11/2 | 7pm – 8:30pm

Cairns & Beacons is virtual lecture/discussion series being provided by a Michigan Humanities grant to examine several current event topics. The series takes no political position. Our goal is to provide information fairly, identifying differing points of view without bias.  Attendees can participate at home or join the group at the Library.  See GLADL’s event calendar for zoom links and each month’s discussion topic and presenters.

There will be crafters and vendors (including pottery, wood work, candles, handmade craft items, and businesses doing outreach) around three different parks along with free pumpkins for kids, a fall photo booth, pony rides, a petting zoo, food trucks, and we even have some re-enactors and demonstrators of live art.

Learn about the wonders of the sky including what creates an eclipse with a visit inside the MSU portable planetarium, see a real meteorite from their collection, create an eclipse craft and pick up a pair of FREE Eclipse glasses for safe eclipse viewing too!

Join us to learn techniques of astrophotography, capturing images of the sky! Professional photographer Adrian Bradley will share how to take photographs of  stars, planets, the Milky Way--including finding places of the best visibility, despite the light bathing our night skies. Learn how to take clear pictures using fairly standard photographic equipment--even cell phones. If you happen to have a high-powered telescope and a top-of-the-line camera, even better photographs are possible. Adrian will address capturing a solar eclipse on film as well.

Adrian participates in astronomical communities both nationally and in Michigan. He has shared his experience about astrophotography several times for the DPL/WSU Planetarium series.

This event is being held in conjunction with the Grand Ledge Fall Festival, so bring the family to Fall Fest which extends from Jaycee Park along the river trail to the Island Park, then walk across the parking lot to the Beer Fest and enjoy craft beer and cider on Fitzgerald Field (the ball field under the bridge).  

Entrance to the field is behind the Masonic Temple across the parking lot from the Island entrance.

Participants 12+ will learn how to paint a fun Fall painting with acrylics! Canvases, paint, and brushes will be supplied. Participants are encouraged to bring aprons and/or clothing that can be soiled. Paintings will be able to be taken home at the end of the evening, or may be left at the library to dry (to be picked up by 4:30p on 10/27/2023). Registration is required to ensure adequate supplies, one painting per registered participant.

Dress for magic and come downtown for some early Halloween fun! Young children and their parents can attend “Magical Bubbles” presented by “Bubbleman Ron and Bubblewoman Gloria”—See giant bubbles, smoke-filled bubbles, weird-and-wacky bubble shapes and more! Then kids head out to "Trick-or-Treat" on Bridge St until 7pm! Check out your favorite Halloween books and movies too!  Our Halloween activities are fun and appropriate for all ages, no registration necessary!
