Event Description
Creating a Poem: A Two-Part Poetry workshop presented by Dennis Hinrichsen, Lansing’s former Poet Laureate. For high school to adult writers of any skill level. Learn about forms of poetry, writing techniques, try your hand at writing and creating poetry. Attendees work through gathering ideas and drafting, revising and finally presenting the poem to the group, so it covers all the stages of the writing process. Discussion includes right and left thinking and some key principles on how to shape poetic language. Attendees will leave with a sense of how to find ideas, draft, and make their work better through revision.
