Aces over Grand Ledge RC Air Show Open to Spectators

November 2018 commemorated 100 years since the end of World War 1. During WW1 all armed forces began to learn the benefits of air power. Some legends of the war include the Red Barron and USA Ace Eddie Rickenbacker. The Remote Control (RC) world has had a love for everything that flies but the Biplanes and Triplanes of the Great War hold a special place for the interest RC hobbyists.

The attention to the airplanes from this era has grown. As a result the Capital Area Radio Drone Squadron (CARDS) will host Remote Control event on July 26 & 27 from 9AM – 5PM. This event will only include airplanes used during the Great War. Joe Vermillion current President of CARDS commented, “our goal here at the Capital Area Radio Drones Squadron is to promote RC Aviation by way of fellowship and fun. Our community events are set up in a way that everyone can come out and enjoy what this amazing hobby has to offer. From fun and friends, to education and hands on experiences, our club strives to build our hobby by involving the people that are part of the community in sharing what we do. Our gates are always open to all of those that have a love for aviation and wish to get involved as well as those that just want to come out and watch. So come join us for the fun! We look forward to seeing you soon!”

Should you come to see this event you will see a large variety of planes used during WWI. Come watch these spectacularly crafted WWI airplanes of all sizes soar through the air at CARDS field located at 8328 Otto Road, Grand Ledge MI. Typical prime times are 9AM to 2 PM. Flights are somewhat dependent on weather and wind conditions. Flying normally occurs all day so you should see action regardless. All spectators enter free with a $5 parking donation per carload suggested. A concession stand will serve food, soda and water.

Next year (2020) CARDS will pass a significant milestone by celebrating its 50th anniversary as a club of enthusiasts dedicated to this hobby. Besides hosting some great RC Air Shows, CARDS also offers a Community Model Aviation Day which allows participants to experience flying a real RC airplane after some introduction on a Computer RC simulator. The use of an RC “Buddy Box” assisted by an experienced instructor makes this fun and easy.

We encourage all media to help us promote Aces Over the Ledges as well as our other events. A short video will help you gain some perspective of just how fantastic the Airshow will be. https://www.facebook.com/541457779678486/videos/1216901918491968/?v=1216901918491968
